Mexican Pine Needle (Ocoxal) Tortilla Basket

Appearance

As with most products which are handmade by artisans around the world, the pieces may have slight imperfections in the form or finish of the materials. Sometimes sizes of same model may also vary slightly, however, these imperfection do not compromise the aesthetics or functionality of the pieces and are considered normal and expected.

The natural pine needle baskets normally do need any special care. Normally, you put the tortillas on a cloth, towel, or parchment paper before putting them into the basket, so they don’t come in contact with the food. Never place the baskets in a dishwasher. If they do become soiled, hand wash the baskets using mild soap and warm water, using the pressure of the water from the faucet to wash out particles between the pine strands. Towel dry the baskets, and leave to finish air drying before putting them away. If over time the baskets develop a musty odor, you can also add a teaspoon of baking soda to the dishwater as you wash them.
